I just read this morning about David wanting to build a house for God to dwell in and God’s response to him began with these verses;
“I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt to this day. I have been moving from place to place with a tent as my dwelling. Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, did I ever say to any of their rulers whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, ‘Why have you not built me a house of cedar?’” 2 Samuel 7:6,7
We have been longing to build a house that God could use as a home to train people up to live, love and lead with shepherd hearts. Right now we have an offer in on a piece of property on the outskirts of Bradford that we can envision using for just such a purpose. We are waiting… to hear back from the owner as to whether he will accept this offer or not. We have been asking our prayer to team to pray with us in this venture and have heard back from one of them that the neighbours in the area are concerned about the possibility of us moving in. Our relator has encouraged us that this is normal when people do not have a clear picture of our intended use of the land. To say the least, if the Lord provides us with the property it will be a challenge to build good connections with these neighbours. There is also the added challenge with the town to change some zoning in order to build where we envision it. We are asking the Lord to make His perfect, preferred will so clear to us. Would you please pray with us? We are certain that if this is where the Lord wants us He will make a way and go before us in all these matters. The land is beautiful, it’s the hearts of those involved that would need to be cultivated and seeds planted and watered.
IN THE MEANTIME…
God is reinforcing the truth that He dwells in us, in these tents. Here’s how Paul puts it in 2 Corinthians 5:1; “For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.”
Whether or not God’s plan includes us building a house on this property or some where else, remains to be seen. What we know for certain is that we do not need a house built by human hands to do the work that He has called us to in training up a generation of shepherd hearts.
At this point in the ministry God has been opening more and more doors for TFL (Training For Life) to minister at camps, conferences and retreats all across North America. We are seeing Him bless the music, teaching and discipleship ministry through seeing genuine fruit in the lives of those we are blessed to ministry to.
I am doing a Beth Moore Bible study right now on David, and in today’s homework she wrote; “As I read 2 Samuel 7:6-7 (the verses at the beginning of this blog), I saw another wonderful principle at work. To me, God seemed to be saying, ‘As long as My people are on the move, I’m on the move! You can’t tie Me down as long as My people are mobile!” Isn’t He wonderful? The ‘tent’ to which God was referring was the Old Testament tabernacle designed by God to move with the people. That’s God’s way. You can’t leave home without Him.”
The music ministry is shepherded by Kelsey Stebbings and the band includes Josh and April Schrader as well as Patti LaRose who have all been tied very closely to Mercy House. It is interesting to us that as the Lord opens more doors for them as a worship team, and for my speaking ministry, that He would close the doors at Mercy House. We would never have chosen this, but we can begin to see some of the possible reasons why God would allow for it. As of December 1st 2011 our team will be more ‘mobile’ than ever.
The lessons we have learned through the ministry of Mercy House have been and continue to be invaluable. Our heart is to use all that God has taught us in this and the other arms of CrossTrainers ministries, to pour into other’s lives. Whether that is in a house built here in Bradford or through these ‘tents’ going wherever He calls. We are asking God to continue to prepare our hearts and ready us to follow His lead wherever, whenever and with whomever He directs.
